The 2024 Blowout reboot had 17 venues, 150 bands, and a twenty-dollar wristband. The 2025 edition pulled into Hamtramck on March 20 with 25 venues, 220 acts, three nights, and a wristband price of thirty-five advance, forty at the door. The growth is the story.
So is the math. The volunteer team that revived the festival is run by the same people who organize the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival. Konrad Maziarz is on both committees.
The proceeds still benefit the Labor Day Festival. WDET signed on as official media partner. The booking process moved to an open call online, which produced more applicants than any modern Blowout had handled.
The committee took most of them. The venue list reads like a tour of every functional bar, café, and hall in Hamtramck plus a few that opened recently. Ant Hall and Ghost Light.
The Painted Lady. New Dodge. Outer Limits Lounge.
Polish Sea League. PLAV Post 10. Smalls.
Polka Dot Bar. Florian East, opened seven months earlier, was added to the rotation. The High Dive, six months into Leonard Lopp's reset, was on the list.
Detroit Threads, Bank Suey, Cafe 1923, the Hamtramck Public Library. Twenty-five total. The bands ran the same range the Blowout has always run.
Indie rock, garage, country, punk, hip-hop, lounge acts, weird ones. A representative sample: Eck! at Polish Sea League, Double Winter at Painted Lady, Day Residue at Bumbo's, Fangs and Twang at Fowling, Fen Fen at Club Coyote, the Antibuddies at Outer Limits, Big Life at Polka Dot. None of those names will mean anything to most readers and that is the point of the Blowout.
By Sunday morning a quarter of them will mean something to a few hundred more people. The price hike was the only friction. Thirty-five dollars is still cheap for a three-night festival.
It's also seventy-five percent more than the year before. Some longtime regulars grumbled. Most paid.
Hamtramck filled up. The Labor Day Festival's books got fatter. The 2026 edition pulled back to 18 venues and 130 acts.
Maybe twenty-five was too many. Maybe twenty-five was just right and the bands self-selected. Various venues across Hamtramck. Wristbands $35 advance, $40 at door.
