The 2025 Blowout sold 220 acts across 25 venues with a thirty-five-dollar wristband. The 2026 edition pulled the wristband back to twenty dollars, the count back to 130 acts, and the venues back to 18. The committee said the cut was on purpose.
While everything else in town was going up, Blowout figured it would try the other direction. Festivities ran March 5 through 7. The festival headed back into the same stable of venues it has used since the 2024 reboot.
Painted Lady. PLAV Post 10. Polish Sea League.
Outer Limits. Bumbo's. Ghost Light.
Small's. Florian East and the High Dive both made the list for the second straight year. The Hamtramck Public Library and Cafe 1923 ran the all-ages programming.
Ant Hall ran the bigger sets. The 2026 lineup pulled regional weight without sacrificing the Blowout's defining feature, which is that two-thirds of the bands on it have not yet figured out how to be played on commercial radio. Headliners included Zastava, Danny Kroha, Werewolf Jones, Ryan Allen and the Full Court Press, Cult of Spaceskull, Dear Darkness, Deastro, and the Amino Acids.
Highlights of the weekend included Duane and Stef Chura at PLAV Post 10 on Friday night; Cult of Spaceskull at Small's just after midnight; Passalacqua somewhere in the rotation. Across the weekend, the festival drew the kind of crowd a festival draws when it has been priced for the people it actually serves. The volunteer committee that runs the Blowout still uses the proceeds to fund the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival.
The 2026 reduction in scale was framed as sustainability rather than retreat. The 2025 expansion stretched the volunteer team. Twenty-five venues at staggered set times is more festival than a small organizing committee can run without paying themselves.
The committee did not pay themselves. The 2026 reset gave the festival a footprint the same people could actually run. Three nights, 18 venues, 130 bands, twenty-dollar wristband.
The Blowout in 2026 looked like the Blowout people remembered. Various venues across Hamtramck. Wristbands $20 advance.
